When it comes to hotel development across Africa in 2024, just five words tell the story, 'Egypt and the Big 5'. In this context, 'the Big 5' does not refer to Africa's major wildlife attractions, (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo) but to the global hotel chains – Accor, Hilton, IHG, Marriott International and Radisson Hotel Group. This year's African Hotel Chain Development Pipeline report, widely acknowledged as the industry's most authoritative source, documenting and analysing the number of hotels being planned and built across the continent, reports a market share of 28% for Egypt and 71% for the Big 5 global chains.

This is the 15th edition of our annual Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa survey and analysis. This year
we recorded data from 45 international and regional hotel chains (some with nil returns), reporting their pipeline
activity for 119 of their brands for which they have signed deals in Africa.

This is the 14th edition of our annual Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa report and analysis, and the third to be produced in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Happily, it does appear that we are at the beginning of the end of the pandemic – the Africa CDC (an agency of the African Union) reported that as of mid-February 2022 The overall daily reported number of new cases across the continent is on a downward trend.

This is the 13th edition of our annual Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa report and analysis. That number is unlucky for some, but as usual we are not dealing with luck, instead some very hard work, by the hotel brands and by the investors that they engage with, in very hard times. Welcome to the 2017 edition of our annual Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa. This ninth edition of our annual survey has 36 international and regional contributors, reporting pipeline activity of almost 73,000 rooms in 417 hotels, a 13 per cent increase on the 2016 pipeline.

Welcome to the 8th edition of our annual survey of the hotel chains' development activity in Africa. We first produced the survey in 2009, with contributions from 19 international and regional hotel chains, who reported between them a pipeline of 144 hotels and almost 30,000 rooms.
